Sound Artist, Bassplayer & Composer

About

Benedikt Wieland oscillates between Switzerland and Berlin. He works as a sound artist, bass player and composer. He is currently working on an improvisational idiom based around the possibilities of sculpting and reshaping the sound of an electric bass.

He is the founder and bandleader of the post-jazz outfit Kaos Protokoll. With this outfit, and a few other projects, he played shows all over Europe and Asia.

Kaos Protokoll (in its quartet iteration) is the recipient of the Priority Jazz Prize (2018) and the Work Prize (2015), both from the state cultural funding program Pro Helvetia.

In 2013, around the time when the project started, they won the 2nd place at the most important national Jazz competition for young Jazz artists (ZKB).

He’s also the founder of Prolog Music, which consists of an artist agency (2011-2020) and the label Prolog Records.
